Project Type: Drawings
Critics: Nicole Robertson
This project began with the documentation of an antiquated technology, the betacam tape. The study of this object looked beyond its physical characteristics into the mass manufacturing of the object and its unique form of visual decay. Mass manufacturing of these tapes leaves its impact on the local ecology of its production site including both the natural environment and those who work in the facilities. The tape's glitches and fuzz that develop over time echo the unintended effects of it's fabrication. The drawings reflect these issues through line drawn abstraction of stills taken from Jennifer Baichwal's documentary, Manufacture Landscapes.
